Burns House

Nestled on a hillside overlooking the bay, the previous single storey holiday house lacked a great deal that our client desired.  She invited us to the house she had always wanted.

Taking advantage of the bay views to the north, and the steeply sloping block, we designed a 2 storey house with north outlook for both levels, so the house could be bathed in both scenary and sunlight.  Built with materials like local stone, recycled brick, bamboo floors, and reclaimed cabinetry, the house has as little environmental impact as possible.  We applaud our client's own effort to source salvaged materials such as kitchen cabinets and tiles, which have now been given a new lease of life in this beautiful 8.7 star house.  Being a bit beyond our building zone, the house was built by Working Dog Constructions, who did a wonderful job, working in hand with our Architect Sarah in a Project Administration role.

A good balance of both thermal mass and glazing, in hand with great orientation should make sure this house remains warm in winter and cool in summer for many years to come.
